Behind the Paper” is a distinguished research communication and scholarly engagement initiative curated by The Academic Times Journal to transform how academic research is perceived, appreciated, and applied beyond traditional academic readership. This initiative provides a unique platform for scholars and student researchers to narrate the untold stories behind their research journeys—what ignited their intellectual curiosity, the obstacles encountered along the way, the rigor and innovation that shaped their findings, and the practical relevance of their work in real-world sectors. Through curated interviews with the Journal’s Research Analysts and engagements via the Research Hour Program, this initiative seeks to:
Humanize the research process.
Highlight the industry or sectoral application of research.
Bridge the gap between academic knowledge and economic, social, or policy action.
Researchers are allowed to demystify the research process through personalized interviews conducted by the Academic Times Journal’s Research Analysts and interactive presentations during the Journal’s Research Hour programs.
They discuss whether their work is industry-driven, highlight the specific economic sectors—such as health, agriculture, technology, education, energy, or governance—that may benefit from their findings, and connect their studies to broader social, environmental, and policy contexts. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and society, ensuring that research does not end in archives but lives on through public discourse, cross-sector innovation, and community empowerment.
“Behind the Paper” operates on a multi-platform strategy. Feature stories and scholar profiles are published on the journal’s digital and print platforms. At the same time, the Research Hour provides a live, virtual forum for scholarly exchange, stakeholder engagement, and public dialogue. These sessions are recorded and repurposed into accessible formats, including short videos, blog-style articles, podcasts, and social media reels to reach diverse audiences ranging from policymakers and industry professionals to students and the general public.
By spotlighting research that aligns with national development goals, global challenges, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), “Behind the Paper” serves as a critical avenue for knowledge translation and policy influence. Research findings with commercial potential are shared with industry associations and innovation hubs, while socially impactful studies are recommended to nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups for wider application.
