The School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana proudly announces the successful deployment of SignAttendance, an innovative digital attendance system developed by Mr. Toussaint Afadolo, a Level 400 student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and former Vice President of ESUG. His groundbreaking solution represents a bold step toward modernizing academic administration and enhancing accountability on campus.
SignAttendance replaces traditional paper registers with a smart, technology-driven system that combines efficiency with security. The platform integrates QR code sign-ins for quick access, real-time selfie verification to confirm identity, GPS-based geofencing to ensure physical presence within lecture venues, elevation checks for precise location accuracy, and two-factor authentication for lecturers to safeguard attendance validation. Together, these features form a robust system designed to eliminate proxy sign-ins and improve data reliability.
During its official demonstration, the system received strong commendation from faculty and leadership. The Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences acknowledged the innovation’s practical relevance and provided strategic recommendations to enhance its scalability and institutional integration. With promising results already recorded, the School is optimistic about a broader rollout of the system across departments beginning next semester.
